Dropping a Truck in 2 Stages

So I've had this idea and I just wanted to put it out there for you guys that have been down this path before...

I'm thinking about getting the 2/4 Drop kit from either ECE or CPP this Summer and checking to see if it's enough of a drop for my truck. I live in the Midwest and every spring and summer the pot holes outnumber the people in my town. In my head I'm thinking doing the 2/4 with just springs, shocks, shock mount relocaters, and adjustable track bar this summer and see how well the truck handles the crappy roads... then if it does well next summer I'll do the front disc brake/drop spindle/lowering block on conjunction with the 2/4 and set the truck down on a 4/6 drop.

Don't get me wrong I would love to jump straight to the 4/6 drop with the disc upgrade but my budget isn't going to allow that all at once. This truck is what I call a semi-daily driver... I plan on driving it maybe 1 to 2 days a week and Weekend Cruises, Carshows, Drive In nights, ect...

Does this sound like a logical route to take?

I would just cut one coil out of your front springs which will get you 2-2.5" of drop and order an adjustable panhard, make some 2" blocks and 2" or 3" drop springs in the rear. It is really affordable and still rides good in my opinion.

Then just measure and get shocks from your local auto parts store if they are needed.

Re: Dropping a Truck in 2 Stages

I don't really want to mess with cutting the coils... I've cut a coil on a lot of other old cars I used to work on but that was when I was young and had zero budget. I have to money to buy the 2/4 drop now and I know that at the rate I save I'll have enough for the discs/drop spindles by next summer... If I put the 2/4 on it and like it the way it is then the money I'd spend on dropping it any more can be spent on rebuilding a 454 RV motor I have laying around or towards a posi-rear end or an Transmission with an Overdrive... All things on the list to do to this truck...
