Door lock troubles

My driver's side door will not lock and I was hoping to get some help. When I try to push down the knob to lock the door, it won't budge. If I open the door and lift the release lever at the same time that I push the button, it will go down. But when I close the door it pops back up.

Any ideas?

The door has to be closed and you have to lock it with the key. You can't lock the doors on our trucks by pushing the button down and closing the door. If it won't lock with the key then the door is probably too tight & needs to be adjusted.

Re: Door lock troubles

Thanks for the insight. This is my first truck like this. Just got it yesterday.

It won't lock still with door closed. Should I play with the adjustments on the lock plate in the door sill?

Re: Door lock troubles

I had to take mine apart and clean and lube. Be careful not to lose any of the clips.

Like Mike said, use some PB Blaster or similar on it first. You can get to it at the back of the glass with the window rolled down. Use a good strong flashlight and shine it down inside the door. If it still doesn't want to cooperate try moving the striker plate out a bit. Be sure and mark around it with a fine felt tip marker first so you can tell how far you have moved it. Only go about 1/16" at a time and don't let it move up or down, just out. It shouldn't take much if that's the problem.

Re: Door lock troubles

What shape our your window and channel seals in? I had a piece of rubber fall right in the path of the mechanism and I couldn't lock my door. Pulled the piece out and she worked. I replace all the seals.
