running rich

How do I lean out a quadra jet? I don't see any adjustment on it just shy of disassembly.

Re: running rich

Look at the front of the quadra...there should be 2 screws, 1 on each side in the front of the carb. From my understanding the left screw is idle mixture the right screw is idle speed. Turn the left screw (idle mixture) to the right (clockwise) a quarter turn and give it some gas a couple of times. See what happens. Still running rich, turn the left screw ( idle speed) the same way a quarter turn, give it some gas and see what happens.

Let us know how you make out bud.

Re: running rich

has the carb ever been rebuilt? if not thats why you can't find the screws. The adjustment screws are covered by two round plugs that can be removed easiest by removal of the carb from the intake, and careful work with a small chisel and hammer on the very corner of the base of the carb. (this is the easiest way, they can also be drilled and pulled out). the plugs should be located on the front of the base of the carb on either side of the fuel line into the carb.

cheers

Re: running rich

Don't think it's ever been rebuilt. Would this one have that dual capacity pump on it? The mileage really sucks.

It's an '85 GMC High Sierra with a 305.

Found the round plugs. Wonder if I should kit this thing while it's off?

Re: running rich

may as well, its pretty easy to do, just make sure you dunk it and leave it in carb cleaner for at least 8 hours and get all the crud out, plus it makes it look like braaaaaand new (once you have all removable pieces off of course) and just take your time when you reassemble it, you should notice a big difference.

Just a warning don't go nuts on the bolts when you put it back together when you rekit it the carb horn will warp if not careful
