Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

Just picked this blazer and honestly I am not a suspension guy at all much less 4X4...
A member commented that the dual shocks scared him....should I be concerned...is there an alternative/better way to take the bounce out of a lifted truck on 33's?
Here's a pic of the shocks and my build thread with other pics is in my signature "Finishing Touches"

Re: Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

It's an EZ-Ride 4" rear lift and 2" front lift and originally came with just the SX8000 shocks...he said he added the SX6000's to keep the "bounce" out of the suspension so it was more streetable...

Tuff Country Part#14611 kit per his receipts...

Re: Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

Nothing scary about that, except I don`t see that bottom bolt taking the stress for long. The correct way to do that is have a shock on either side of the mount with a spacer in the original shock position. At least the top has a bracket,so it`s an actual dual shock kit.I`ve seen guys do it without a bracket and they have what you do now on the bottom. If a shock is taking any pressure at all,and they do or we wouldn`t need them,it`s pretty obvious that would be a bit much to ask from a 1/2" bolt extended 3" off it`s mount. If you didn`t get the hardware that came with that kit,you need to get ahold of some thick wall pipe and make a spacer.I guess you could just stack washers...not my style. That thing is clean as a whistle!

makes sense to me. I'll move the bottoms over to basically split the mount to not have all the pressure on the end of that bolt and then I'll make sure it doesn't look like anything is binding....

Yea that's what I would do man! Nothing bad about 2 shocks just that the bottom ones are really done the right way is all.

Tim just got there first....again. I was going to say exactly what he did about the lower mounting position.

i just posted the same answer in your project thread. bottom shock bolt needs to be in double shear if possible. otherwise good to go

Re: Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

looking at it tonight, the one shock fits perfectly between the factory mounts. So should I move the inside shock to the inside of the factory mount, have a spacer in between the factory mount, and the other one on the other side of the mount? OR modify the factory mount.

Re: Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

They are intended to be mounted with the spacer in the middle of the factory bracket and one shock on either side. The point of the spacer is to keep from crushing the bracket, since the shock is not in there.

Re: Dual shocks on a 71 4X4 Blazer....problem?

Thanks for confirming! I didn't feel like messing with that part of it last night. With the top on I can't raise it up that high even with the nice 2 post lift.....gotta get that off (and figure where to safely store it) to do the body work and have more room to lift it.
