how long did it take...

just figured i would through this out there, how long did it take to get fluid to your rear wheel cylinders ro calipers in my case? it only took us about five min. to get fluid to the front calipers, but my daughter gave out on me after about 15 min. of trying on the rear. i have always had the vehicle running when bleeding brakes before but is this a must, silly question just thought i would ask? completely new system by the way, 4 wheel disc, new calipers, booster, p. valve, lines and all.

thanks

Sounds like your proportioning valve needs to be reset. There's a button on the end end the front that will do the trick.

Re: how long did it take...

you mentioned you installed new lines. i assume you replaced all the rubber lines. i ran into the same problem, it ended up being both the prop valve and a collapsed rear brake line.

but to answer your question, it shouldnt take 15 minutes. sounds like there is some type of restriction or air bubbles in the system.

Re: how long did it take...

You can make a one man bleeder take a plastic soft drink bottle drill a hole in the top get a piece of hose that fits over the bleeder.Put some fluid in the bottle sit it somewhere you can see pump the brake tell you don't see bubbles in it anymore.

Re: how long did it take...

yes all the hard lines are now new ss lines, and all four corners have ss braided lines (4 wheel disc now). here is a good silly question, does the truck have to be running to perform a manual bleed? i have always been told to have the vehicle running.

No....and I just answered that same question in your other post. Please don't do that, it is against the rules for this very reason.

Actually, as long as the porportioning valve is "open" you can "gravity bleed" the system w/o pumping at all. Open all of the bleeders and let them flow on their own. Leave the cap off of the master cylinder so you can keep an eye on the fluid level. Just don't walk away too long or the master cylinder will run dry.....and then you are starting over.

Re: how long did it take...

you also want to start with the wheel that is FARTHEST from the master cylinder and work your way back ...

1.) passenger rear
2.) driver rear
3.) passenger front
4.) driver front

Re: how long did it take...

sorry longhair i knew when i done that it was probably not a good idea, but i did it anyways thats how we all learn i guess, mabey others can learn from my mistake as well as all the knowledge you guys have been sharing with me.

thanks shane for that as well it will help when i begin trying to get the air out of all the lines. and just so all of you know i got the fluid to my rear calipers this evening after much reading on gravity and manual bleed of the system. i came up with another quicker way than gravity bleeding to get fluid to the rear calipers on a new system but....I WOULD HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND IT. all i will say is it involved 1/4 hose on the end of the bleeder and well...we have all siphoned gas from a tank to a jug right? u all can figure it out from there, and brake fluid taste like !@#$ it worked though just not safe at all. call me a dumbazz if u wish but i overcame the situation and imporvised a solution!

later,

skeeterbug

Re: how long did it take...

They sell a tool that bleeds backwards you put it on the caliper and pump it tell the master cylinder stops bubbling.
