Gear ratio in the Spid?

I know G80 is Posi on the Spid in the glovebox but did they list an option code for the ratio in there as well? Its an 1987 Silverado

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

Not sure about 87 but my 86 has a listing for the 2.73 gear it has. I don't know the number off the top of my head though. I also recently bought a 84 that did not list the gear in the option codes. Both trucks were factory TH350 trucks.

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

On mine it says 3:73 axle. And g80 on a different line.

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

For '87 it should.

Usually it will have either a code for the base axle, and won't tell you what the ratio is, or it will have the code for an optional ratio and tell you what the ratio is (ie, Mine says GT4 - 3.73 rear axle).

RPO G80 locking rear axle will always be shown separately, because it is a stand alone (free flow) option.

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

If it has the "standard" ratio, it will not be listed. This SPID only shows optional equipment, it is not a list of everything the truck was equipped with from the factory.

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

GU6 should mean 3.42 I believe.

After looking at the SPID picture thread I believe you're right. I thought I had seen SPID labels that said "GQ1 - Standard Axle". I was always frustrated by that, because it did not explicitly say what that particular standard ratio was. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

That's your SPID on an '87?

Mine (also an '87) is not like that: it shows the Option code and the noun name, like this:

(I'll get a better picture for reference use later).

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

Thats awesome. I really didnt want to pull the cover again to check the numbers stamped on the ring gear. Its cheaper to find a new diff than it is to repair.

Re: Gear ratio in the Spid?

You don't want to repair that Gov-lock anyway. They are not even a good boat anchor, unless your boat is really small.
