3/4 ton drop requirements

What do you all feel about spending time and money on dropping a 3/4 ton ? I'm ready to buy tires and am thinking about doing all the other stuff as well, which means different wheels, tires, drop kits, etc. Is a 3/4 ton truck worthy of such an expenditure ? It looks like all 1/2 tons doing this kinda stuff.

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

I'm sticking with my 16 inch steelies, painted white with moons and trim rings. So you think it's not a waste to spend time on a 3/4 ton?

i don't think so.
not sure what the after-market is like.
might cost you more to drop the 3/4.

GMC Pauls has drop coils for 3/4 ton trucks.

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

i am dropping my 3/4 ton. my plan is to still retain towing and hauling capacity since it will still be used as a truck but making it look better. this is my plan: putting drop spindles on the front (maybe $60 more for the 3/4 ton) and maybe half a coil cut off the spring to get the stance i want, removing 5 leaves out of each side leaving 4 in but installing a helper bag kit from firestone ($240 from summit) that way i kind get it lower and still be able to haul. i'm am also going to retain my steelies (note- if you find baby moons that will fit you're my new best friend because i've been looking for months and can't find anyone that makes them to fit 11 3/4" inner diameter). anyway i should end up with a 3/4 drop -ish.

i looked into shackles and hangers and an axle flip. i took some measurements and i have roughly 7" of clearance from the tip top of the differential cover to the bottom of the bed floor. shackles and hangers and an axle flip would give me 6" of drop and only 1" of travel before i had a nice dent in the floor of my bed shaped like the top of my diff and i really don't want a hole in the floor. i could go with just the shackles and hangers but don't know how much i trust them for hauling.

hope it helps a bit. answering your question if it's "worth" it? well, i don't like answering a ? with a ? but the question to you is

"is having a b*tchin truck worth it to you?"

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

I'm going to bag the rear of mine and expect to run a bit lower than stock height. I may drop the front with spindles.. haven't decided yet.. I'm woring back to front and I'm still a good $10k from the front end of the truck at this point... lol

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

I can't address the 'worthy' ness but I did a 68 3/4 lowered abunch of years ago and it was a blast. Every old guy on the planet either wanted to buy it or talk about it. I used late model factory ford steel wheels and chrome lug nuts, 235 front tires and I think the rear was a Michelin from a land cruiser, nice and tall and wide to boot. I always bought used tires form a buddy at one of the local tire stores, so who knows what I was going to get.
The front lower control arms were from a guy in Oregon, I think, that made a raised balljoint lower front control arm, worked great, cut the coil a little easy lowering done at home.
I don't remember the rear, but I did learn that if I was going to do it again, on a coil rear, to use a Suburban rear lowered coil to keep the load capacity up.
The truck was cool, the guy I sold it to used it to haul his sprint car and I heard it became his push start truck too.

I kind of miss that truck, I hauled a lot of $hit in that old blue truck.

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

Here is the 1967 fleetside C20 my son and I are doing.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=252364
We are pleased with how it's coming along. The frame is all done and the next biggest hurtle is getting it through the body shop. Then we are going to drop in a gen III engine & 4L60E.
Not at all worried about the value because we know it is unique and is being built very clean. Having alot of fun and really appreciate having this board as a resource of information.

Re: 3/4 ton drop requirements

C20 owner needs C20 drop spindle information, Where specifically did you purchase the 8 lug drop spindles? There is one company thats selling the whole kit & not just the spindles. Im assuming that buy purchasing this complete set up it will change say a 1969 to a 1973 8 lug set up? I already have the 8 lug disk brakes we just need the spindles.
