Deluxe door panels

I did a search and found that the ABS door panels I intended on getting from Classic Ind. are not the best quality. My customers original '71 Cheyenne panels are in good condition with the exception of the chrome around the wood grain peeling off. The only reason for looking at new ones is because of the chrome. Is there any way to make these presentable? If not, what are the best repros out there?

Re: Deluxe door panels

You might try a roll of chrome mylar trim tape after peeling off the existing chrome. Get some 3M 94 primer and brush it on the piece, then cut and fit the tape over the piece. Trevor

Would that tape fit tightly around the ribs on the edges of the chrome border? The woodgrain itself is also not perfect, but probably usable.

Re: Deluxe door panels

You would have to experiment. You could maybe go to a vinyl wrap shop and see if they carry chrome vinyl material. It could be heat formed. Trevor

Re: Deluxe door panels

I believe that trim is stainless...have you tried polishing it? I use a die grinder with a 3" polishing wheel and green compound and it sure makes is look better than new!

Joel, right? The 70-71' door panels are different then the 72's. They have plastic trim that is part of the door panel that was vacuum plated chrome from factory. Originals tend to peel after all these years. Trevor

Re: Deluxe door panels

Thanks for all the responses guys. The owner of the truck has now decided to go with the standard style panels since the truck will be semi-custom. So anyway, I suppose we will try and sell these at some point.

Re: Deluxe door panels

Sorry guys, I overlooked the fact they were 71 and not 72 door panels.
