Anybody running there truck on propane??

Thought it would be cool to convert over to propane, or use it in addition to gas. It would be cheaper the run on propane versus gas right?

I think this was popular in Canada, not sure about the US.

If anyone has pics please post.

Re: Anybody running there truck on propane??

My dad ran his 366 in his school bus on propane until the price of propane went up enough that it was cheaper to run gasoline. The propane didn't get as much mpg as the gasoline.

My dad had a 66 with Propane on it, the price was cool until you look further into it, mileage drops conciderably and the price is close to regular gas, then you have the cost of the conversion. Yikes.

Yep, thats why I've never done the conversion. I had a friend ( actually a friend of my dad) that run a dual fuel propane truck back in the 80s when it was cheaper..

but now its much more expensive for propane and also a dual fuel carb is finikey sometimes to keep running right....
your milage WILL drop with propane as well...

Re: Anybody running there truck on propane??

I ran dual fuel - prpoane and gasoline in a new '79 Silverado. Wouldn't do it again. Efficiency of propane was much lower compared to gasoline. The BTU content of a gallon of gasoline is around 114,000. Propane is around 84,000. Power and mileage comparison are similar. Propane is about 75% as good as gasoline - noticeably less power and mileage. So I found that in '79, it cost more to run propane. The tank is also heavy and bulky.

Other than these things, it is a great deal.
