Spare tire on dually neccessary?

I just got a K3500 dually flatbed. I am wondering if I need to carry a spare tire. If a rear tire went bad, wouldn't the other dual hold up? If a front went flat, couldn't I pull a rear tire off, throw it on the front and limp on in?

I am sure you could yes.. unless you were carrying a load, then you would need the dual rears.

But in a pinch are you really going to be worried about what it looks like?

no, and i dont think you reduce your weight capacity enough that it would mater either, al least for a short trip

Re: Spare tire on dually neccessary?

If you get a flat on a dually, I would count on the good inflated tire carrying you for any great distance, It will get hot from the friction and start self destructing. That is why you see alot of dually's with cracked outer fenders....

If the bad tire was removed though.... it would be fine. correct?

While I agree with Tony that the bad tire will hurt the good one, at least in theory...Dually fenders are usually cracked because of "pilot error", crew-cabs are even worse. Inside turns get cut short and they get bumped, a lot.

True, but many dually fenders are destroyed by blown out tires that run unnoticed because of the other good tire, and when the tire finally comes apart, the fiberglass fenders are quick to go.
