Talking Can anyone tell me about a '76 GMC Camper Special?

I just got off the phone with my mom back home (I'm in Europe for school until July) and just found out she bought a truck. Now, my mom isn't a truck kind of girl, but felt she needed a truck to take stuff to the dump once in awhile. I don't know the exact reasoning behind it, but either way has a truck now.

All I know is that it is a '76 GMC camper special with a 454 and auto trans. She doesn't know if it is 4wd but I am supposed to be getting a picture of it soon so maybe I'll find out more then.

But, what is different about the camper special trucks as opposed to the normal Sierra?

Oh and I forgot one of the best parts. She bought it from a neighbor who works at a local Chevy dealership. He has owned it for about 2 years, and he had purchased it from the original owner!

The Camper specials are the heaviest duty trucks. they're designed to carry those big old slide in campers and haul a trailer. usually they have the heaviest springs, and 2 sway bars, and a proportioning valve for the brakes on the rear axle that senses how much load is on it and adjusts the rear brake pressure accordingly.

oh cool. Apparently it is in good shape. Hopefully it doesn't have much (or any) rust. Since I know I'll have to do any work on it, maybe I'll be able to convince her to let me use it until I land a job and can afford a car... :-)

Just tell her it's better for the truck to use it rather than let it sit. it's true! if she'll believe ya. ha!
