Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
Last week I picked up the last piece of the puzzle for building a good old work truck. I have needed a backup truck for a while because scrap work is hard on the 94 Suburban. So here is a run down on my start.
About a year ago I picked up this 79 Chevy Big 10 with a good title, a perfect cab, rusted out bed and front fenders, bent hood, good 350, bad carb, unknown transmission. Snagged it for $200 and knew it wasnt going to the crusher. About a week later I was given a perfect hood

Re: Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
Nearly 6 months later I got a call to pick up an 85 C10. So I loaded up and headed off to the mountains and came back $150 lighter and one truck richer. Unfortunately it is from Portland, Oregon and has a ton of rust underneath. Dash is great. Seat isn't bad. Hood is bent up. 305 runs great, transmission is shot. And has a nifty pillar mount spotlight. Clear title.
It was added to the collection of parts for the 79 and parked down in the field.

Re: Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
Now a couple of months later I got a call to pick up a 73 body that the owner had pulled the engine and trans and dropped it in a Malibu. Most of the truck is made up of bondo but it does have some usable parts like a good door panels, good seat, grill, wheels, hood (not pictured it is in the bed) sliding rear glass, and bumpers.
Oh yeah and a perfect set of tires that are now on the Suburban.

Re: Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
And then last week I picked up the 83 for $300. Has 305 that knocks like a door to door salesman, Good transmission. Great seat (3 cig burns but it is comfy and it will be in a work truck) Duct tape camo dash. Rusted pretty bad Good dual exhaust ( unfortunately not true duals) Wrecked on pass side but I might pull parts off of the 85 and assemble a second truck. Not sure on that yet. Title pending.
And here is my little collection of trucks to stir together. From left to right 79 Big 10 that I will be building, 80? s10 with a hyper 350 in it, 85 c1500 bad trans rust buggy from Oregon, 73 Chevy 1500 no eng or trans lots of bondo, 90 GMC (WarWagon), 83 Chevy 1500 . In the foreground to the left you can see the 95 4wd s10 that needs an engine swap.

Re: Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
That is quite a selection of trucks you have there. You will have no shortage of parts when you start your build!

Re: Project Hodgepodge The 79 Chevy
I'm just starting my build and I wish I had that many trucks to pull parts off of. Looks like you have a lot of space to do the work too which is nice!!
