Re: sandblasted frame

I had mine sprayed with POR15. That stuff is liquid armor! I've heard it doesn't adhere to bare metal like it does rusted. Whatever, that stuff ain't coming off my frame with nothing less than a grinding pad!

Re: sandblasted frame

Sorry to revive the thread...but how much stuff can you leave on the frame when sandblasting...I have never blasted before so I am really going in blind...do I need to strip the entire frame down? If the cab is still on but the motor, tranny, doghouse, and bed are off, and it is sitting on jackstands (rear end still in, "some" suspension still on) can I safetly do it?

Re: sandblasted frame

Another phosphoric acid product is Ospho, available at my local Ace Hardware. Put it on right after sandblasting, wait a day and sand or wire brush off the dried excess and Epoxy prime.

If you want durability, I would avoid powdercoating and go with paint or POR15. Powdercoating just sits on top of the metal. My frame is powdercoated and it is not as durable as a properly painted frame IMO.
