87 Mirror Mount
I had my '87 in the body shop and the guy lost his lease halfway through the restoration (and lost a good bit of parts to my truck too.) The cab has been redone with new GM doors and the rusted ones got tossed. My question is this: Is there a bracket that bolts to the inside of the door to mount the mirrors? (Luckily, I still have the mirrors.) I haven't taken my Suburban apart to look...
Thanks!

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
The elephant ear mirrors, fairly certain there is no backing plate for them. Just the crimp nuts in the door skin, gasket behind the mirror plate and you bolt it on.

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
Hey, RandyP,
Thanks for the reply. I have to take one off my Suburban to be sure, but I think there are two crimp nuts and one stud or vice versa...it's been a long time since I've taken one off. Either way, I'll have to use the Suburban to make a template. Thanks!

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
Are you talking the buckeye style (elephant ears)?
For the small D49 mirrors, there is a "soap dish" shaped bracket that the mirror screws shoot into. K

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
Here it is this goes in the bottom of the 3 holes
and 2 jack-nuts go in the top 2. A special tool is required for the jack-nutS. The jack-nuts are available from G.M. PN# 367292 These are for large elephant ear mirrors, Last edited by HOGDADDY; 05-06-2010 at 12:57 PM. |

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
HOGDADDY,
Sweet!! Thank you for the information...that's exactly what I was looking for! You don't happen to have the PN for the bracket? I'll have to dig through my remaining parts...I may have them...I just didn't know what to look for. Thank you so much for posting the pics!

Re: 87 Mirror Mount
Would anybody happen to have the measurements for the holes on the drivers door? I had a old right side I got the measurements from and was wondering if they are the same for both sides?
