Aftermarket A/C ...Where's your alternator?
I am about to order A/C either from Old Air or CAA. I am curious to where people are relocating their alternators and what brackets they are using.
I want to stick with the long water pump and my alternator is currently on the passenger side. i would like it high on the drivers side, but the only brackets i have found are for short pumps. I have seen the low/mid mount bracekts, but I am wondering if that is going to get my alt wet when i hit puddles. Last edited by dznucks; 05-21-2010 at 06:46 AM. |

I have Vintage Air in my 70 Truck and the alternator is in the stock position ( high on drivers side). The a/c unit is high on passenger side. You might want to check with alan grove for the brackets you want for your particular location of installation.

Drivers side on my 55 and 71.
Old air brackets on the 55 and http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/bills.html on the 71. I like Bills better.

also did vin air. moved alt to driver side and a/c on pass side. Did not want a/c hoses going across motor. also used alan grove brackets. simple bolt on. I am sure he has them where ever you want to put alt/ac. Gary

dude...thats sweet.
I didn't know you could get a low mount with the compressor. I've got more research to do before i buy whichever system i buy. I want the CAA system, but i want to be able to use the stock A/C controller. From what i have read, you have to use the heater controller or their billet contorller. |

go to CAA site and then go to the 67-72 truck page, scroll down and you will see a download for using a factory air control.

Re: Aftermarket A/C ...Where's your alternator?
Interseting thread. I too have been perusing which aftermarket AC system I would go with too...planned for next spring.
I will be going with the Old Air system to use on my BB. Both OA and VA suggested I move the alternator to the driver's side and buy the optional bracket. This makes alot of sense. Getting the compressor under there, although looks to be a very nice and clean looking install, seems like it would be much more difficult either from the top, under the alternator, or from underneath the vehicle during install or when maintenance is required. I went with the OA syatem because the electronic servo control unit is very appealing. No cable adjustments and seems to be easier to work on if need be.

they allow you to use the factory "heater" control. not the A/C controller. Unless i read it wrong. |

Re: Aftermarket A/C ...Where's your alternator?
I have installed both OA and CAA in several trucks and cars. CAA allows you to use factory heater controls. CAA also looks neater and built very well. Both companys sell brackets for any install(A/C and Alt). Good Luck

Re: Aftermarket A/C ...Where's your alternator?
Does anyone know of a drivers side, low or mid mount alternator bracket that can be used with a long water pump?
