Do I need this bracket?

I'm getting ready to clean and paint the frame of my 65 chevy and I'm thinking of removing this bracket before I do. The truck has an auto trans but doesn't have a shifter yet. I think this bracket was for the clutch z-bar, but will I need it when I install a new steering column with a shifter for the auto trans?

Thanks

Re: Do I need this bracket?

It is in fact the z-bar bracket. Unless there is a chance you'll be going back to a stick shift someday, it can go.

Re: Do I need this bracket?

Are you planning to have this truck buried with you? If not, please think about leaving the bracket where it is. It's not in the way of anything right now, and whoever buys the truck from you might appreciate your thinking about the next owner. I know I would.

Re: Do I need this bracket?

I remove the bracket when doing the conversion, so it appears as stock, as possible. It is a dead-giveaway, that the truck was a manual with the bracket in place. My thought is, if it is not needed, it should be removed, especially, if you are painting the frame.

I tell you what if you do want to remove it I would love to have it. The moron who had my truck before me butchered mine all up.

Re: Do I need this bracket?

If you're not going to be using it, I would remove it. It will look cleaner without it. But don't toss it, let shark66 have it if you don't want to keep it.

And after you get that taken care of, you might want to take a look at that lower steering column bearing......I think it needs some help. Just sayin.....

Good call Capt. Looked right at it and didn't even see it. That's really scary.

Looks like the spring is missing to hold the bearing in place

I would be happy to give the bracket to someone how can use it. I will also have other leftover parts, is shark66 the clearing house for leftover parts?

Re: Do I need this bracket?

I am trying to keep mine close to stock, but always wanted a Hurst shifter....always had automatics as a kid. I converted to a Hurst three speed floor shifter. I left mine on so if my son had some inclination as the fourth generation owner I have all the linkage and such to convert it back easily to the three on the tree.

I suppose it is just preference.
