Rear End?
What would be the best vehicle to pull a rear end out of for my 69 c10? i want to go to a 5 lug disc!!

Don't overlook the '70 rear, if you happen accross one cheap enough with the right ratio. they are the first of the "wide" housings used from '70 on up to '80 ('69 and back were narrower)
They will accept the '71-'80 5-lug axles. Alot of them around. Likewise, if you ruin an axle on your '70, you can use any of the '70-'80 4x4 6-lug axles in them. Anything from around '81 on up will be weak. '81 started the Corp. 10-bolt junk. (glorified S-10 axle) they won't take what an old 12-bolt will handle. JMO, tho! Also, the earlier 12-bolt stuff (mid '74-back) should have the true "clutch type" posi, if you are lucky. '70-'72, for sure. Later rears used "governor-loc's" Best leave them where they lay!

If you use a 73 up rear end you will have to do some adapting. Ron's advise is the easiest way to go and you should be able to find a suitable 71, 72 rear end. Jim |
