crazy issuse

was out working ont eh 71 got my water leak fixed but i let it idle for about 10 mins while i was removing the rear bumper then it just shut down like someone had cut the key off. (yes it also dieseled) and wouldn;t start back ( it didn;t want to turn over like the timing was off) let it sit for about 5 mins it started right up ran for 5 mins then same thing? does that sound like a bad coil? i have a skip white hei in the truck

Shutting off and not wanting to restart until it has cooled down, is similar to what I've experienced when a coil or ignition module is going bad. However I've never experienced a slow cranking situation during that time, it would just crank normally and not fire.
I'd get one of those inline spark testers then let it run until it dies again, then check to see if you have spark when you go to restart it.

The only time I have problems with the '71 not turning over or turning over slowly is because of heat soak of the starter caused by the headers.
