Help with seat back latches please.
Hey guys,
I thought maybe someone over here could help with a couple quick answers. I recently picked up a 60/40 seat from a 92 that I'm going to put in my 79. Neither seat has a lever to release the seat back forward and the 60 seat seems to have a broken spring in the release mechanism. Can someone give me a pic or part number for the release handle that is missing and any help to fix the spring would be useful. TIA Steve The seat ![]() seat latch passenger side (60) ![]() ![]() seat latch drivers side (40) ![]()

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
I don't have the info you need, but try www.latemodelrestoration.com and give their sales line a call (Toll-Free). They seem to be able to get GM parts and I don't think that the aftermarket has it. Of course, you could just call a GM dealers' parts department.
Hopefully, someone will have the info or even the used parts you need. With the Cash for Clunkers, there should be some candidate seats for cannibalizing in the wrecking yards.

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
Would someone be willing to snap a couple of pic of their seat latches? It would help if I could see what they should look like with a release lever on them.
TIA Steve

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
Can someone with the same style seat help him out? That way, there'd be no argument as to what they should be. My seat is different, although the latches may be the same. I just don't have one in front of me to compare it to.

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
I bought a similar set of seats for my sister's truck, and I was confused with how they worked too. after some playing around I found that the little metal pecies that sticks out of the back of the seat is actually the lever that will release the seat to top forward. In the 60% seats case the tilt forward should pull a cable that will release the seat rail to send the seat forward. This cable shoudl be on the outside of the seat along the rail hdden behind a small plastic cover.

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
my set does not have them, but they might originally have come with one? i'm not too sure. I think that this was the design that GM came up with when they first began to sell extended cabs, as my 94 wich originally came with a 60/40 seat had levers on the side of the seat that were much easier to see and operate than these little things.

Re: Help with seat back latches please.
So, they were there all along, right? But, I can see how you'd wonder about them, especially with the condition of the backs in the area of the releases. I guess GM subscribed to the Braille method of seatback releases....
