250 timing issue
trying to get this thing running right. If the timing is not 50* advanced the truck will barely stay running. Could someone have put the gears on wrong? The engine is out of an Olds but is a Chevy 250. I just replaced the intergral head with a regular one and it was doing this befor the swap too.

Re: 250 timing issue
Harmonic balancer has spun??? Confirm tdc on #1 and that your timing marks at the tab are correct.

Re: 250 timing issue
marks are at tdc. The dist.rotor is at 5 o'clock. I am going to try and pull the balancer, the bolt appears to be broken off.

Re: 250 timing issue
pulled the valve cover. Both valves full closed, the rotor points to #1, which is at 3 not 5 o'clock. The timing mark is at 9 o'clock, which is where it is with the timing light. Something moved some where. Maybe the rubber around the balancer broke?

Re: 250 timing issue
Pull the #1 plug, stick a pencil in the hole, and turn the engine by hand to find TDC. Then see where the mark is on the balancer.
