Everyone who welds has been in your shoes at one point or another.. IO started out with a 225 stick welder.. then went onto a 2nd hand flux welder probably similar to yours.. Just practice on any scrap metal you got.. over the years I built myself what I called a "Weld City" a huge pile of scrap all welded into a massive display in the corner of my shop..

Another good investment if you do plan on getting serious about welding is picking up a nice mask.. I personally love my Accu-Strike and they are very affordable and double as a grinding helmet with the ability to use both hands. http://www.accustrike.com/ Auto darkening lids are pretty popular as well.. but don't cheap out.. especially when it comes to your eyes

Re: Check out my welding

another tip is get you a copper welding spoon. put it behind what you are welding and it helps keep from burning through.

Re: Check out my welding

Wow, I learned alot on this thread. Thanks guys.
Not to change the subject, But speaking of eye protection- My glass got broken in my latest move. I went to the local welding supply shop for a replacement and the first question the owner asked was what color my eyes were, he said it makes a big difference on the tint of the glass. Another gee wizz?

LOL.. blue eyed people are supposedly more sensitive to UV rays, so with that in mind id assume the same from any arch. I have blue eyes and have never had any issues using standard shaded lenses. Some of the higher end auto-darkening lids have the option to control the shade.
