Ramside?

I saw a '94-99 Dodge Extended cab truck that had a stepside bed on it. On the side of the bed, near the rear, was a badge that said "Ramside". I thought the bed looked familiar, and I was able to catch up to it when it pulled off for gas. Sure enough, it is an '88-98 stepside bed with the correct Dodge truck taillights. The truck also has one of those Ninety's era fender/body flare kits on it...you know, the aftermarket conversion stuff that extends the body width.

Re: Ramside?

Interesting. I've seen a couple of '94-'01 Rams with stepside beds, but the ones I saw weren't GM or Ford swaps.

Re: Ramside?

Swapping to a GM step was real common round here in the 90s. There was even a dealer that offered it new as a package called a Dodge Borrego. They are actually pretty sweet. Really like the Dodge bodystyle when they came out. The new one are really nice. I just can't get into the new Silverado style.

Re: Ramside?

I didn't have my camera (but I do now). I thought it was a GM bed, but looking at the handle on the tailgate, the tailgate, and the steps all told me it was a GM bed. There was some conversion company name on it, but I couldn't make out what it was. I have Googled "Ramside", but haven't generated a pic, yet.

Re: Ramside?

That's the bed I've seen that BIGphillip posted. Definitely not a GM bed.

Re: Ramside?

I saw it again, today. I'll stick my camera on the bus and hope I see it tomorrow. It makes sense that Dodge would use their stuff, but what I saw sure looked like a GM stepside bed. Hope I'm wrong...

Re: Ramside?

I saw a few of those around here back in the 90's. It was done by a conversion company that manufactured or had the beds manufactured. It wasnt a bed made by chrysler. I remember one that came into the shop for some bodywork and it was definately not a factory mopar piece.

Re: Ramside?

that newer one is a really nice truck. You'd think Dodge would make something like that available.

Re: Ramside?

Today, I was able to talk to the owner and take some pix. Gotta edit them at this moment, but my take on the bed I saw is that it is not a GM bed as I thought, but it has some GM parts and trim. The tailgate is 88-98 GM, as is the fuel filler. The rear step pads are stock GM, while the front step pads are cut-down. The fender contour is GM, but the inner walls are smooth on the sides and the front panel has a different pattern. The floor looks like GM. Overall length is less than my bed, maybe an inch or so. It looks like they may have pulled some molds from the outer panels, then modified them to include the Dodge contour lines. This one is not like the red one pictured above, nor is it like the later model.

So, unless you guys want to hash this one out, I'm done.....now that I've seen it up close and personal. I was wrong. It ain't GM, but it sure looks like there was some incest involved in its' creation.
