You need a quality scan tool to proporly dianose your problem. You didnt mention if the ABS light is on.

Re: 2001 chevy silverado ABS problem
Sounds like the internal ABS module power relay is giving up. Checking history codes whould pinpoint that. This is a very common problem on your truck. Go to autozone and have them scan the ABS & record the current & history codes.

Can Autozone pull ABS codes? I thought all they can pull is powertrain codes. Was the truck ever in for the recall. I know down here in the states trucks in the snow belt where having problems with the front WSS. And there is a TSB on the ground under the driver door

Re: 2001 chevy silverado ABS problem
There is a tsb out for cleaning corrosion off of the knuckle at the mount point for the wheel speed sensor. Rust builds up underneath the mount point forcing the sensor farther away from the reluctor wheel, creating too much air gap, which in turn changes the amplitude of the signal being recieved by the ebcm. The ebcm reads this as wheel speed difference and applies abs to correct a slippage problem that isn't really there. If possible it would still be a good idea to have someone who knows what to look for hook up a scan tool to make sure that is the problem .

Re: 2001 chevy silverado ABS problem
A cracked reluctor ring will also cause the ABS to cycle when coming to a stop at slow speeds. Most often exaggerated over rough surfaces as the speed signal suddenly drops out. It is usually a front reluctor ring that is the culprit. Don’t be surprised if there are no ABS codes and no ABS light.
