Trucks are 15x8. Vans are 15x7 or 6.5" I assume these are 5 lug you got? The 6 lug are tough to find in the narrow version. Good buy!

My wheels are 5 lug and 15 x 7 ,if they are van wheels that is fine .Now if I can just find 2 more close by. I have 4 GMC center caps ,where can I find some kind of decal to cover the GMC label in case I dont find 2 other chevy centers?

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

You could always run the 7's up front and buy the more common 8's for the rear.

I bought a six lug 15x8 this weekend and the guy also had a six lug 15x7. He has it on Atlanta's craig list for $25.00.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

Well guys, it looks like I just scored 5 more van rally wheels ,4 of which have caps and bands and 1 bare. All for $40 , will go get them on Friday. While Im there I will try to get the license plate frame and tag light harness as well. Will the front sway bar from the 85 van fit a 72 1/2 ton truck ? Is there anything else that I should look for ,he is parting out cheap and heading for scrap soon .Will the rear sport bumper fit a 85 truck? Will the brake rotors interchange with a 72 ?

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

Does anyone know about the front sway bar from an 85 van ,if it will fit a 72 truck? Will any of the brake parts interchange ? I will be going tommorrow after work to get what I can .All I need is the wheels and tag light and frame but I can get the other stuff if it will work. I would like a front sway bar too if it will work.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I ran van 7" ralleys for years on a heated spring drop. A few weeks after a front end rebuild and an ECE 4-6" drop kit install I got a set of 8" wide ones. The new front end rebuild did a fantastic job on ride improvement but rode very solid and bounced pretty hard. I installed the new rims on the back with my old 275-75r15's and the rear end ride improvement was a huge difference. Originally I planned to use 7" vans up front and truck 8" rims in the back but because the rear ride was so much better with wider rims I traded the fronts out also and the improvment was very noticable.
No idea what the difference is unless I had too wide of a tire for the rim width.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I picked up the other 5 van wheels today ,caps and bands on 4 very nice driver condition. Only thing is these are about a 1/2 inch thinner than the original 2. The bands are noticeably thinner as well ,but a good buy for $40 for 5 wheels. He is going to take the tag mount off for me before he scraps it out. It has nice brake rotors on it and a nice size sway bar but I dont know if they will fit my truck. The front and rear bumper was also nice and the outside door mirrors were nice too.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

Hey young fella. How's it goin". Looks like you got the 6.5" wide ones. Good score. Can't decide on the rest of the stuff? I'd go back and take the tag mount off myself. Then you'd know it was done. Pick up the rest of the parts too if they're cheap. You can always recycle them to someone else. One thing to watch for when mixing and matching rally wheels. Look for the number of slots in the rim. Trucks have 10 I think. Vans are I think 18. TTYL

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I need some more schooling on van rallys. I was under the impression that van ralleys were 6 1/2" and 7" wide with 16 slots .Well today I picked up what I thought was another 7" wide van ralley but it turns out it is 8" wide with 16 slots .All the above wheels are 5 lug. So did they also make 8" van ralleys? I have no idea what to do with the odd 8" wheel as I need 2 more 7" .

van rally's were 6.5" width

truck rally's came both in 7" and 8" widths

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I thought truck ralleys had less slots around the perimeter of the wheel versus van wheels having 16. All my wheels have the 16 slots around the perimeter .Did I read that wrong on here.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I went back today and got the tag bracket w/light and the antenna for $10 .He has nice mirrors on the doors if anyone needs them .The complete van body is nice ,shame its going to be crushed soon. Sway bar and complete front and rear suspension still there as well.I would like to have a sway bar but dont know if it will fit my 72 truck. Front and rear bumpers are nice chrome ,may be the same as 85 truck but not sure.If anyone needs any of these parts let me know ,he is only 20 minutes from my home.

6-lug truck ralleys have fewer 'slots' vs. 5-lug ralleys.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

Dang John, a truck project too!!! I have a set of rally wheels also,15 x 7, if you end up with some mis-matched ones. I have a guy who can widen them if you want that as well. I have the # if you need it. Doug

Doug, I didnt know you were on here as well as TC. Good to hear from you .How is your father-in-law doing ? I hope he is better and you and the family are doing well. My truck is a 72 daily driver .Its a little rough around the edges but I may not even bother making it nice. Its kind of nice having one that doesnt need washed and waxed and nobody but me would want it.

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I do beleive the front sway bars from 67-87 are all the same. The bar and brackets on my brothers 83 are identical to the parts on my 68. Get the sway bar and make sure to get the frame brackets and bushings as well. You can get new bushings and clamps but you will need to know the diameter of the bar before geting new bushings. Standard was 1-1/8" but the HD bars are 1-1/4".

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

I wish I had known about the sway bar as I was just there yesterday .I may give him a call and have him take it off and save it for me. Are the 85 brake rotors the same size as 72?

Re: Truck / van rally wheels

Not sure about the rotors, but 80's GM trucks had either 1" thick or HD 1-1/4" thick rotors. I'm not sure of thickness on 71-72 rotors. That would be what you need to find out first. I'm also not too sure about if the hub mount is the same either.
