Front Hub lockouts, what to do?

On my 72 GMC 3/4 4x4, I was hearing a rattle noise coming from the fron axle lockouts. I pulled it apart to find that the plastic had cracked and the pin was moving around in the hub.
Do I just replace the one plastic part? if I do where can i find one?

or do I upgrade to the mile marker or warn hubs?

Its a daily driver and I do drive it through baja, I want to make it as bullet proof as i can.

Thanks,
O

Re: Front Hub lockouts, what to do?

If I were you and it is a daily driver like you said, I would get some Warns or Mile Marker lockouts. These old Spicer lockouts are sweet, but very hard to find in blue color. You can replace the plastic dials with Red ones from a Ford about $20-30. Trevor

Warn is suppose to be stronger than MM but I never ran MM to beable to say that is true or not. Online opinion so grain-o-salt. I like Warn all metal inside and out..

Re: Front Hub lockouts, what to do?

I always heard Spicer hubs are better than Warn or Mile Marker. Heavier steel inside. Trevor

The original blue hubs are spicer hubs you can get parts for them here

http://quad4x4.com/

They are the only ones I know of that still have stuff for these hubs. I got lucky mine are in good shape after cleaning them up.

Re: Front Hub lockouts, what to do?

There is a guy in upstate NY that has rat holed many parts for these hubs. As was said eariler the Blue knobs are hard to find and you'll pay dearly for them. red ones are easy to get. do a search on ebay.

Re: Front Hub lockouts, what to do?

I personally like the super which hubs. If you look on amazon you can get them for a good deal. They are quarter turn and stainless construction like the warn premiums. Also they are blue if that matters......
