86 chevy shortbed 4x4 Project

I just got my first 73-87 chevy truck last week tell me what you think. Its an 86 Chevy shortbed 4x4. The body is decent but will need some work around the edges. The motor is a 350 out of a 79 chevy truck along with a turbo 350 and np203 transfer case. The tranny doesnt work but i already have a turbo 350 with a strip shift kit installed and i also got an np205 transfercase also. Plans for the truck are lift it 8-10 inches 4.56 gears and 38-40 inch tires along with a rebuild of the 350 thats in the truck. Tell me what you think and any pictures of shortbeds with that size lift would help also. Any information such as things to watch out for is really apreciated. Thanks and nice meeting you guys.

Re: 86 chevy shortbed 4x4 Project

Here is a shot of mine. Started out with a stock 84 1/2 ton. 350, 700 tranny, 208 case, 10 bolts front/rear. Put in a 6" lift, 14ff rear Dana 44HD up front, 4.10s and 35" boggers.

Couple months ago I swapped the motor/tranny out for a 454 and 4-speed/205. I'll never consider a small block in a truck again!!!! Big blocks rule.

Re: 86 chevy shortbed 4x4 Project

Yeah im satisfied with what i got to start out with on this project. I forgot to mention that i got the truck on a trade. I traded my 1966 chevy corvair that i had just shaved and lowered last year but was wrecked right after completed. I always wanted one of these trucks but being only 18 and not having much room to park vehicles i knew id have to get rid of the car so everything worked out perfectly for me since i just traded the car on the truck.

Re: 86 chevy shortbed 4x4 Project

I've had cars since I was 17 or so till bout 10 years ago, now I don't really want a car. Tho I do miss my 78 Malibu with an alum headed 468, this time of year it sucked, just sat in the driveway rusting away some more.

I love trucks, I hate having to climb OUT of a car, would rather just "slide" out of a truck....

Re: 86 chevy shortbed 4x4 Project

Well havent posted on here in a lonnngg time so i figured i would share my progress. I removed the bed from the truck and decided to put a flat bed on it, fixed all the rust on the cab, replaced the transmision and transfer case, installed a 3 inch bodylift, and finally just finished up installing an 8 inch superlift suspension lift. There has been many other odds and ends done to the truck but i figured i would keep the story short lol. Tell me what you think
