Paint Help???

I have a 68 chevy truck with factory hup caps. I have one that the paint has come off chevy bowtie. It is red orange color. How do I find color code, so I can get touch up?

Re: Paint Help???

Welcome!

Check your local yellow pages for automotive paint suppliers (many auto parts stores mix/sell paint).

Then take one of your good hub caps to the store and see if you can match it up to the samples shown in their chip books. Most places now have electronic scanners that do a pretty good job of matching colors but I think they need a larger sample than what you're dealing with. So you'll probably have to do it the old way comparing to the chip books.

Try starting with the book that shows 68 GM truck exterior colors. It's possible they used the same color on the hubcaps as one of the available exterior colors.

If you don't have a compressor/spray equipment, most places can mix up enamel paint and put it in an aerosol spray can.

Many auto parts stores also sell pre-packaged cans of touch-up paint (Dupli-Color, Plasti-Kote, and such) that you could use as well. Just compare your good hub cap with the paint can caps. Just be aware that the caps aren't always an exact match to the actual paint. Probably close enough so no one would notice from one hubcap to another though.
