Timing Advance.

I got a 92 with the 2.5 Iron duke. I was driving home last week and my truck started to sputter like it was out of fuel. I had 1/4 gas left. I got pulled over after I lost power and it just shut off on me. After looking under the hood everything looked alright. so I started it back up. It was idleing fine. Put it in gear start to drive about 50' it starts to sputter again. I've been having a hard time starting it, but it would run good. If I got on it I could smell fuel.

Anyways. I got the truck back to my friends and pulled the coil off since I thought that was the problem. Took it to autozone and tested it, and it was out of the ohm range. So I got everything to do a tune up. I pulled the plugs and they were white. I was using bosch platinum singles. The cap the contacts on the inside were also white. Ok got it runing lastnight, and checked the timeing and it's set at 35* advanced. I'm wondering if this is what it's supposed to be set at. I was reading in the haynes book that the timing being set too much advanced would casue the plugs to turn white.

I'm installing a tach to see what I'm idealing at because it sounds a little high to me.

What should my timing be set at?

Re: Timing Advance.

you also need to check the timing with ECM command removed. follow the procedure on the underhood sticker.
