Thanks for the info from the Chevy Sales Book.

So........to keep my 66 as original as possible, I should lose the horn rim? Do I need an entire new steering wheel, or just take off the rim and put on a chrome bowtie horn button?

Re: door panels. I didn't paint the truck, but bought it from a nice old guy who restores cars & trucks as a hobby. This one was restored pretty well, but not with the intent to be a show-truck. I'm okay leaving the door trim panels as they are until it's time to repaint. But for future reference, ONLY the recessed "stripe" should be white?

Also......no arm rests.....and no evidence that they were EVER installed. What's the deal?

Never heard of a glove box being called a dispatch box....and I'm no spring chicken. Mine has no light in it and no locking knob.

Do you know which hubcaps would've been correct for this version? Normally I would think painted, but with the other chrome on the grille and windshield, I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the help.

Randy
this would be the '66 Custom Deluxe steering wheel

Re: 1966 C10 factory wheel color?

"There was a full wheel disk for 60-61" Aero, please explain/show.
GMC wheels were indeed white. And the photo of the trucks on the rail cars by Mt Shasta has both Chevy and GMC trucks on it. The white wheeled ones are indeed GMCs. You can tell from the 2-tone patterns on the flanks.

Re: 1966 C10 factory wheel color?

we found some literature that shows an optional full whel cover for 60-61, it is a 56 chevy belair 15 inch full wheel cover carried over for truck duty.

Re: 1966 C10 factory wheel color?

Custom steering wheel & chrome horn ring assembly is a great thing, but your's is specific to the '60-'65, so you should try to find one specific to the '66. I personally like the appearance of the '60-'65 Custom steering wheel & chrome horn ring assembly better than the '66 Custom steering wheel & chrome horn ring, but if you are looking for original equipment options, the attached photo is the correct style for the '66, sans the steering wheel cover.

Wheel Colors

Series 10-30--With all solid colors and the Black/Off-White 2-tone combination, wheels are painted black. With all other 2-tone combinations, wheels are painted the main body color.

Series 50-80--Wheels are painted black with all exterior colors.

For the 1964-1966 Chevrolet light-duty trucks, Suburbans & Panels, there is no reference to a Seamist Green, so I don't know what color wheels came with the trucks painted in Seamist Green.
This info is correct, but where is your documentation on the 4X4 statement? Seamist green is also know as Turquoise.

At the moment, I don't have the time to sift through all the manuals and literature I have, but I pulled it from one of them. Thanks for the home-work assignment...I will get on it.

In searching for this information, I didn't find the aka on the Seamist Green...where would I find this documentation?

Re: 1966 C10 factory wheel color?

I think when they list a color as poly, their refering to metallic.

The official color of the 66 4X4 3/4 ton in the photo is indeed turquiose. The point of the photo is to show the wheel color is same as body color on this tu tone 4x4. I remember calling this color seamist green because that is what this color was called in the mid 70's, but in the mid 60's it is called turquiose poly ( metallic). The statement you made is incorrect about black wheels only on tu tone 4X4's, and you will not find it in any manuals or literature you have. You made this excuse the last time I caught your error about chrome factory mirrors on '60-'66 Chevy pickups, and you still never came up with anything.

I have one for Passenger cars dated Oct. 01, 1966. That thing has been worth it's weight in gold. Can you recommend any other literature for these trucks? Thanks.

Hey-who knows background on this photo? Was this MT. Shasta? Is this in Dunsmiur? Load on way to Oregon? What year?

Cool shot...

Re: 1966 C10 factory wheel color?

The issue is the factory painting rules, not the body color name. But here is the color I was thinking of when I described the turquiose metallic and '66 3/4 ton 4X4 in photo I documented above. I won't even get into the correct name for the white: cameo white, off white, ivory, pure white, frost white, white.

Doubly cool for me, because I am a railfan, too. The trucks are 64-66 (from the windshields) and the experts here can probably pin it down to a single year. .
