Help Me Hang a Door
I replaced the passenger side door hinges on Blue last night. The project started off good but then went south when I tried to rehang the door. I spent about an hour trying to get everything lined up right before I had to quit due to darkness.
Is there a way to hang the door with the fender on or am I better off pulling the fender? If the fender goes, can someone tell me how many bolts there are and where they're located? |

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
you can hang the door with the front fender on, but you need to be very careful not to damage the door/fender. It's always best to remove the striker plate from the cab while aligning doors.

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
Much easier in my opinion to hang door with fender removed. Two bolts at top of fender near the hinge, two or three going thru the radiator core support, two each at the top and bottom of your grill, either six or eight connecting innere fender to the fender lip, one connecting the back of inner fender. This is the one that you have to get under the truck to see, it is directly in front of your rocker panel and draws the fender in tight to the cab.

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and take the fender off. I can see myself fiddling with this thing with the fender on for 3 hours and still not having it lined up right.
Thanks for the info! |

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
Update:
Pulled the fender, re-hung the door and then re-hung the fender. It wasn't easy (took nearly 3 hours) but it did help me get the door lined up. Now all i have to do is get the fender back right.... ![]() I've got about 3 bolts that still need to get put in to connect the inner and outer fender in the wheel well. Any tips on how to get them lined up better? |

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
Thanks Alex, I've been using a screwdriver to varying degrees of success. I didn't think about a punch with some more heft to it. I'll check it out.

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
Before you start regarding that tool as a punch, it really is not. It just is named a punch. It is a long, tapered alignment tool. Not a brute force instrument. Tapered is the keyword. Very useful nevertheless.

Re: Help Me Hang a Door
If nothing else, the alignment tool will work to elongate the holes in the inner fender. Or so I've heard.
