Rear disk brake question
Alright, I want to put disk brakes on my 12 bolt rear end but I don't want to spend the big bucks for a conversion "kit". I know I should be able to find everything I need at a junk yard and rebuild the system. I just need to know what to look for in the way of a year make and model for a donor.
Has anyone done this? What make of car or truck had disks on the rear stock that will bolt up the my axle? Thanks everyone.

Re: Rear disk brake question
I think you are going to find that it's not going to be as easy as that....otherwise there would be no need for a "kit" in the first place.
Swapping the entire rear end out of an Expedition or one of the big-body Lincolns is probably the easiest way, but you lose the original 12 bolt that way. You still need a master cylinder/proportioning valve, etc. but there is a lot less "adapting" and bracketry involved.

I guess what I need to know is what year did GM start putting disk brakes on the back of 1/2 ton truck and can I adapt them to my 12 bolt?

Re: Rear disk brake question
you might check out captfab...he makes brackets so you can use stock calipers....this way you can buy it piece by piece as your budget allows
here's a link to most of his posts with different options that use camaro calipers, stock D52 calipers, impala ss calpers etc.. impala calipers: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=339280 D52 calipers: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=398352 camaro calipers: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=382633

Re: Rear disk brake question
Not sure if this is an option or not, mainly because I don't know if it would work...
I had a 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood I used in a demolition derby last year that had factory rear disk brakes. I was going to snag them but the carnage was so severe I just never messed with grabbing them. You might be able to get a set of something like that in a junkyard. If I had grabbed them last year, I would have just given them to you for the shipping. I'm looking for another car currently. If I come across something, I'll let you have them if you can find out whether they would really work on a truck or not.
