Smile I'm just giddy. Getting my 86 back from painter today!! With pics.

I've had this truck for about 12 years. Just bought it for utility purposes to haul mulch, lumber and other stuff. Well, as you can see from the "before" photos below, she was starting to get surface rust and it was time to decide on her fate. Well, I found someone local who does painting out of their back yard shop, got a great price, and went for it.

The paint color turned into a bit of a mystery. My plan was to keep it simple and just do the original blue over the entire truck. The painter got to work and when he started spraying, he called because the color wasn't even close (as you can see) even though he took the codes from the sticker in the glove box. I liked the new color so I said go for it.

The more I thought about it, I now recall seeing some darker blue behind a few places where there was some peeling paint. And, I found a reference book that shows the ligher blue wasn't offered in '86. Odd thing is the interior is the lighter color. So it's still a bit of a mystery how it got this way. But, I like it so it's cool.

Dropped her off back in March, so it has been quite a while. In that time, I picked up a new dash, reupholstered the seats, and began working on a rebuild of the original radio.

These photos are from a recent visit where I put in a new fuel sending unit while the painter had the bed still off. More photos of both before and after as I get everything installed this weekend.

I think that is real close to the factory blue mine use to be. I wished I could get mine painted.

Re: I'm just giddy. Getting my 86 back from painter today!! With pics.

Thanks all. Painter just delivered the truck and its killing me that I have to run out to a meeting. And then the wife is expecting a dinner out tonight (scheduled before I knew the truck was coming). Ugh. Gonna have to just go and smile given how much she has let me spend on the truck so far.

Regarding the color, I found a great book that covers all the colors, engine options, trim kits, etc. for the Chevy lines between 73 and 98. Link is below.

Anyhow, if that book is accurate, it appears that the paint is Light Blue Metalic. The old color seems to have been hawaian blue, which was last offered in 1979. So, its still a bit of a mystery how it got to be the color it was given the sticker in the glove box.

Yep, then that's my trucks original color. I looked it up and it's the light blue metalic. It look great. Can't wait to see it all together. Are you doing anything else to it (wheels, drop)?

Very nice! I as well like the color choice. Do you have any other than stock plans for the truck?

Color looks close to the one I chose, my color code was nasson bm126, I could not get the exact color of mine without going to single stage paint, or buying high dollar dupont base clear...Name: 004.jpg

Nice paint but someone needs to sling a rock through the back glass, so you can get rid of the Obama sticker.

Gee...I know the sticker is a bit faded, but breaking the window seems a little extreme. I'll have to look for a new sticker.
