Yes, you can get another tailhousing. Street and Performance sells them.

Re: ?? electric speedo to cable speedo

my new transmission was supposed to use the electrical speedo connection, but I just installed the cable style, which I already had, and it fit just fine. I didn't have any problems with it, just make sure you use a new o-ring seal. I didn't have to change the tailhousing at all.

Of course you will need the cable housing, driven gear, and the o-ring seal. I suggest the aluminum housings, since the plastic ones can break. Here is a thread with the part numbers and other info: 700R4 Info.

Re: ?? electric speedo to cable speedo

Thanks. Thats more like what I had in mind. Does the electronic version also use the "drive" gear and is it the same for cable version?

Re: ?? electric speedo to cable speedo

To switch you need to pull the tail housing off, pull off the reluctor wheel (metal wheel) and slide on the plastic speedo wheel, bolt up the tailshaft and toss the cable drive on the outside and the party is done!

I did it on my 67 in about 30 minutes and didn't loose much in the way of ATF.

thanks for the description of the change. I have not tried anything yet as I have been busy on a few other things but hope to get to it soon.
