Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

I know its on a ford, but it is a wood flat bed. Not sure how high quality your looking for, but this cost me about $100 in treated lumber 5 years ago and about 2 hours of my time. Really worked well and was very strong. Saw the truck just last month and still had that same bed on it.

Member SloMotion has one of the nicest flatbed 68's around, he has a really nice wood insert flatbed. Nice guy too, PM him and I bet he will share a few secrets.

Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

Thanks guys...the bed on my yota didn't last the winter so I am
building something up this week..

Thanks for that pic it is a good start. 4-5 crossmembers and 7' deck boards should do it.
Looks like little angle brakets to hold the sides up

Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

Yep thats what i did. Used the 4x4's for the braces and used a 2x4 and a 1x4 since the frame is not perfectly straight a every point. That bed saw alot of use while we had it, a head up though, the suspension was shot on that old ford so when you put alot of weght on it the 4x4's by the wheels would rub so i had to chop them down a little.

Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

Great thread, I'm throwing the idea around also about building a nice wood flat bed with sides on my '71 K10.

Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

There was a guy, I think it was last month, that posted a thread on how he built and all wood bed with pictures.

I just did a search and I used "built all wood bed" to find it.

I am kicking around the idea of building an all wood bed using his instructions myself.

Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for wood flat bed ideas

Here is just one of his pictures, but he has a lot more detail ones on the thread he posted showing how the bed was raised high enough to prevent rubbing the tires.
