Anyone converted to a large rear window?
I have seen that at least one person here has converted using a panel from an original truck. But, listed in some of the catalogs is a rear cab panel that replaces the entire rear of the cab. It comes in small or large rear window style and the inner panel for the conversion is also available. Just wondering, has anyone here used one of those to convert to a large rear window?
If so, how difficult was it and how did it fit? Any pictures along the way? Any advice (other than don't try it at home, LOL) |

Re: Anyone converted to a large rear window?
I think that there was an article in one of the truck magazines a while back but don't remember which one. The replacement inner panel would probably make things a lot easier though.

A friend of mine did one (He is a master welder and fabrication guy). He said it flexed to much and the doors never closed or stay closed like they should.

Re: Anyone converted to a large rear window?
Here's a link to the article. I personally think the big back window is overrated And I like the look of the smaller window, but only on the 55-59. Of all the mods I'm doing on mine I'm leaving the rear window alone.

Re: Anyone converted to a large rear window?
Interesting article. It must have been done before the full rear cab panels were available as the article mentions that there were no conversion panels available for a Chevy like there is for a Ford. I would like to have the large rear window but I think that will be on the "back burner" for a while.

Re: Anyone converted to a large rear window?
Yukon Ratrod's build thread shows how he did it but as he said it wouldn't be an easy project at any rate.
I've seen a couple of articles or threads where they changed the whole rear panel and I have seen at least one where they cut the opening and sheet metal out of a doner and replaced it that way. From what I saw in his thread the best way might be to haul the truck and a #46 paper grocery sack full of cash to Whitehorse and ask politely. That is if you want it perfect when it is done.
