Re: just picked up a 85....well kind of
these trucks are great unless the years show on em. I'm sorry you got taken. Luckily brakes are an easy system to work on. i'd find a cheap donor truck and start from there.

Re: just picked up a 85....well kind of
have you checked the condition of your spark plugs, are they gapped correctly?
(relating to the bogging while driving)

Re: just picked up a 85....well kind of
Replace the front brake hoses. I had this happen on my truck last summer. I bought a new caliper, paid to have it installed because I don't have a brake bleeder and it still did the same thing as you have. Leave the truck sit for a few days and it'll move. Tap the brakes once and they won't release. Replaced the hoses and all was good.

Yeah, If I was closer, i could have helped out too. We have a bunch of those in the junkyard here right now, so I could have pulled a lot of the parts needed for next to nothing for you.

Re: just picked up a 85....well kind of
well guys i appreciate the offers for help. real nice of you guys.
so the other day the truck shut off. had it towed to shop that raped me on brakes, cuz brake line was still leaking. 2days later they give me back truck. told me there was nothing wrong with truck. and they couldnt find leak??? anyway, i took truck back today, and they tightened the brake line. no leak yet. then took it to another shop to see if my timing was off, or what was up with the hesitation. over the weekend, i changed plugs, distributor cap and rotor. the guy who looked at it today told me the problem is the carb that theres a part that aint working properly. not getting fuel until i get on the gas. and thats why it boggs when i take of slowley. so that said.... what carb should i look for??? im thinking that if carb needs to be changed, i might get an intake mani. my old 82 had an edlebrock intake mani. any info on what i should look for?? so that i can get the right parts i would appreciate it greatly on carb input. and bob, thanks for coming back and offering a hand. i remember last time i needed help with the 82 you kindley offered to help me. man i wish i kept that one..... oh well now its 85 gmc. and im keeping this one!! to the guy who said, look for a donor....dont think thats gonna happen. just hope i can get this one running right. and go from there |

Re: just picked up a 85....well kind of
sounds like the power valve is stuck or sticking.
wouldn't hurt to have it rebuilt. part of the bogging could be a bad accelerator pump to. either put a kit in it or get a reman carb. |
