Re: Petit Jean this weekend-

I'll be there. It's only 25 miles or so from where I live. Trying to get my 68 long bed C20 with 5.3 running in time to drive it. Just got to finish putting front end on and mounting computer and fuse box and wire it to truck. Hope you get to see it there.

Re: Petit Jean this weekend-

For me: No Mon......No fun. This year, anyhow.

Petit Jean is a truly beautiful spot & there's a big auto museum there as well as the show & swap & car corral. The show always is Father's Day weekend every year, I think.

Gigantic pine trees make great vending spot shade. Pretty breezy up high on the mountain, but often it's way sunny-hot, too.

They usually have all the vending areas divided so that "car stuff" is in one area & all the crafts & cr*p vendors are over in a seperate area.

Wear comfy shoes. Take a jacket & sunscreen both -- never know which you'll need. I have either "frozen" & "burned-up" there years in the past.

Be sure your brakes are good for the ride down off the mountain top. It's a LLLOOONNNGGG ways down, if you go off those mountain-side roads.

Re: Petit Jean this weekend-

I plan to be there by 8AM. It'll get hot enough, later.

As for where it is, from Morrilton, go south on Arkansas Highway 9. As you do, you'll reach the community of Oppello, where highway 9 intersects with Arkanasas highway 154. You'll see signs that direct you to Petit Jean Mtn, and/or Winthrop Rockefeller's conglomerate.

The highway is not a bad road, but you need to know that there is a hilly portion that will tax your ride if it is loaded and/or not on the top of the food chain. The part of the road that is "the hill" is about 2 miles long. The view of the Arkansas River valley is nice, when the trees don't get in the way.

As you top the climb, there will be a road to your right. DO NOT take that road, and veer to your left. As you near the swap meet/parade grounds, you'll see that folks will park where ever they think they can, and I've seen some vehicles that needed 4WD to get where they were, much less get out. People on the opposite side of the road will offer parking. If you get there early enough, there's free parking on the lot immediately in front of the museum.

Plenty of food vendors guarantee that you won't be without a good case of heartburn, later.

Come on, y'all....

Re: Petit Jean this weekend-

So far, most of the parts for my restoration have come from Petit Jean. This meet is a little more bearable (heatwise) than the one in September. The weather is also supposed to cooperate this weekend( no rain/less than 100 deg.). Browsing for parts is much more enjoyable in the shade. Last September, I had to pass on a 1967 Suburban for $500 due to lack of funds on hand. If you are coming from the south or east, it is better to cross the river at Morrillton. If you are coming from the north or west, cross the river at Russellville.

Re: Petit Jean this weekend-

Just returned from the swap meet on Petit Jean. Lots of people and lots of parts. Thought I would go up early on a Friday and beat the crowd and the heat,WRONG. Found a good dual line 750 Holley carburetor for $45, bowtie door sill plates(new) $12 each, and an almost new hollow body electric bass guitar with case for $100. Seen 5 different 67 to 72 Chevy trucks for sale, including the suburban from last fall. This meet is much larger than the ones I have been to in the past. I gave up against the heat and didn't make it throught the whole thing. Anybody looking for early Ford parts, they got em. Kenny's Trucks Inc. out of OK (specializing in 60 to 72 GM trucks) was there but said this might be his last trip to Petit Jean due to being too busy back home. Other big name vendors were also there. If you turn down the road beside the museum, there is $5 parking in a field to the right. It's worth it due to the close proximity to the action.
