You don't see this tachometer everyday

Was this used in the larger trucks? It is a tach drive off the distributor

Re: You don't see this tachometer everyday

It is probably for a diesel. But it wouldn't have driven off a distributor.

If you look close at the markings on this tach, you will see that this is a 4 grand tach! I have the 4 grand tach lens laying around here somewhere. I've only seen one other one in 30 years of haven fun with these trucks!

MO ILL ARK where ever you can imagine, swap meets, junkyards, craigslist, ebay. In the 80s and 90s there were 2 or 3 these trucks in the junkyards a week, now 2 or 3 a year! I'm almost depressed

I moved my mom into a small apartment and out of her house, so I lost my storage locker I had to sell most what was in the basement, but i do have some doors, hood, bucket seats, consoles, tilt columns, factory sliders, speed warnings,AM/FM,steering wheels, mostly I build instrument clusters for these trucks and rebuild tilt columns. My head hurts,I can't think of anything else

Re: You don't see this tachometer everyday

That is a 4 grand diesel tach from a bigger truck. There were actually 2 versions of this that had different redlines. 2800, or 3200 rpms... You are right, you don't see them very often. I have a few of them tucked away myself...

Re: You don't see this tachometer everyday

It is probably off a diesel. Both the Detroit 4-53 (2800 r.p.m.) and the Toroflow (3200 r.p.m.) used mechanical tachometers. The GMC V-6's also have a provision for a mechanical tach. drive off the back of the camshaft, but it was only used on certain heavy trucks. Pickups always had electric tachometers.
