Tyler/Longview/East TX 4X4 meet

Maybe i will try here. I posted in East Texas part but no one is there i guess. I would like to have a 4X4 trail ride of some kind. Some thing a DD can do and be able to drive home. Like a one day trip. If any one has any ideas please post. Here is link to other thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=405097

Re: Tyler/Longview/East TX 4X4 meat

Im not much help here but I will toss out what I did for a similar situation in my neck of the woods. I bought a book called trail of northern California and learned how to understand forest road maps and difficulty ratings, things like that. Its a helpful bit of knowledge imo. And there is more than likely something published for eastern TX. I did find this and it has links to usfs site which usually have maps n stuff.

I thought this was going to be a thread about squashed armadillos. I was stationed at Ft. Hood in the early 70's and we always had them attacking our trash can. Only off roading I did then was on the tank trails and training range.

Sound about the same as my truck. Hmmm the only place i know of is Shiloh Ridge, and there is some place in gilmer. Hope more people chime in and give location we could go. If you know any one ask them to go. Would like to get a few more trucks atleast. In my town all there seems to be is posers massive lifts and mudders but none are ever dirty. Mostly the older trucks around here are the dirty ones. Where i grew up if it was lifted they actually used it. Lived 15 mins away from great 4x4 action.

Open to all makes and models.........

Re: Tyler/Longview/East TX 4X4 meat

barnwell in gilmer, ive heard its awesome. and yeah that how most of the trucks are around here, i just saw a 2001 chevy at the gas station that had (no kidding) 3 lift blocks on the rear! stock, a 4 inch, and then a 2 inch piece of square tubing! along with a 4 inch body lift! the body puck block things were pipe with washers welded to either end! ghetto!

Re: Tyler/Longview/East TX 4X4 meat

Ya pretty sure there are some kind on laws agiaints stacking lift blocks. The 4wd shop in my town tried to talk me into adding 4s on top of the 4 my truck came with from po. I left pretty fast after hereing that crap. Think they were tring to kill me. 8 inch lift block are very scary and 2 4s stacked is retared in my opinion. With a really heavy burb even worse.

Better steer clear of that truck if you drive around it. Watch for flying parts.
