Is it a Custom or a Mutt
My brother today called my truck a mutt because its a Chevy body, Buick engine, Ford rearend and Dodge wheels. I think its custom.

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
I was able to keep mine all Chevy except the rear end, front spindles, and wheels. So I guess I prefer "custom."

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
Well mixing parts is what rodding is all about, IMO. What kind of Buick engine is it, with what transmission?

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
Mutts are the best dogs and the best trucks.

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
Tell your brother you didn't build it to meet his approval, you built it to meet your own. Then ask him what HIS classic truck is?

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
Mutt is not a bad term, at least in my eyes. A lot of '67-'72 trucks are a conglomeration of several different years (i.e. different front clips, cabs, etc.) and they are often referred to by their owners as "mutts". Yours would be considered a "mutt" in those terms, but it is not derogatory, imo.

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
All of my dogs, except one, have been mutts from the pound. Nature selects the best traits and rejects the bad. I think our trucks are like that too, selecting the best that has evolved over time.

Re: Is it a Custom or a Mutt
I'd laugh at him and give his opinion all the attention it warrants. Exactly none.
I have three brothers, one who is as serious a hot rodder as I, one who dabbles some times with cars then goes years without a toy, and one who spends more on guitars and guns than I do on tools and supplies and trucks, but has never owned an interesting vehicle.
