Tranny Info Needed

I have searched for this and really haven't found what I am looking for. I have a '86 Sierra Classic 2wd. It has a 3 speed auto tranny. I am pretty sure it is the OEM tranny. Is this a "turbo" 350, th350, etc., etc? I just was wondering about changing what I have to a 700r4 would be a good idea or better off staying put with what I have. I am planning on going to a fuel injected motor later. That is a whole beast in itself, but I will ask those questions later. Thanks for any help.

Re: Tranny Info Needed

There should be a build sheet on the glove box door or under the seat. Check this site to find the rpo code that you have to determine the transmission. The 700r4 is a decent transmission but can't handle alot of power. If you are looking for one look for the later year models (88-...) They had upgraded internal parts.
