Urgent help needed

Hi, I'm trying to fit my new mini starter to cure my hot starting issues and I've run into a problem. My old startre has three wires to it, the big battery + cable and two smaller wires, one on each side of the solenoid. The new starter (proform) only has one small terminal, do I connect both wires to the one terminal or do I tape one up or what? At the moment I'm still runing a mallory twin point distributor with an external coil and ballast resistor. I will soon be moving to an HEI when I also swap the nitake for an Edelbrock performer and have a new M&H wiring loom that is modified from new for HEI.

Help, I don't want to screw anything up and now can't finish the job.

Re: Urgent help needed

the mini starters are not designed to b used with the points style distriburors the old startes have the voltage bost feature for full 12v to the coils for initial startup on the popints system // it's a good time to go to the HEI system to solve the problem

Re: Urgent help needed

Bum, looks like my plans just got a bit more involved then. I may as well get it set up and shimmed right and then connect it up after doing the intake/hei/loom swap then.

Thanks

Re: Urgent help needed

for the warmer months you may be fine without the yellow resistor wire as long as it starts easy. just make sure you secure it and prevent it from touching ground.

Re: Urgent help needed

The heavier purple wire is the start wire. You can just tape off the yellow wire up and tuck it away. The truck will start just fine. Since you have a ballast resistor, you are not getting a full 12v anyway.

You can do an HEI when you are ready.

Re: Urgent help needed

Thanks for the info, the wiring is pretty badly hacked about hence the forthcoming new loom. Is the starter wire the one on the S or R terminal (I'm guessing S for starter!) I'm pretty much ready to do the whole shebang, just waiting on a couple of last bits and bobs to arrive and then I'm ready so I may well start next weekend so there'll be loads of more stupid questions once I start pulling it apart as this is the first V8 I've worked on.

Send a pic of your truck. How long has the truck been in France?

Re: Urgent help needed

The trucks not in France its in the UK, it'd cost me an arm and a leg plus my first born to drive it down to my house in France, 900 odd miles each way with gas about $7 a gallon!
