That would be the best solution but finding a K30 for a decent price it not so easy around here. Not many around so they bring a pretty high price.

If you did it right you could put the K30 back together as a C30 and get some of your money back out of it though.

Re: 4x4 conversion

I know a few people parting them out so I would just go cut the front frame section off a parts truck.

Around here that front Dana 60 goes for $1200 by itself. Hope you get a better deal.

Yeah the 60s are high as giraffe butt around here too! I am just going to use it mostly as a driver so I figure a 44HD with the 8 lug outers will be ok. Man I cant wait to get started on it.

Re: 4x4 conversion

im currently debating how i should 4x4 my 83c10 i just got. Im debating either swapping frames, or putting the 4x4 parts on my frame. B52 hangers, ord engine corssmember and heavy duty shackle, then you still need the shackle flip in the rear and change the front hangers to 4x4 style though. It would be easier keeping current frame since i daily it and it has dual tanks and other things id have to connect back up, but at the same time youve got to take the 2wd stuff off and the 4x4 stuff back on and im not sure how many of the holes the 2wd frame shares with the 4x4. Needs more research! haha.

The 44 will live with 33" tires through just about anything you can throw at it but when you get much taller than that they become a weak link and need some work to hold up. In a street truck it will do very well.

You will be running the same front & rear axles that are in my 78 K20 but with 4.10 gears instead of my 5.13's.

Most of the time 1-ton's are worked pretty hard too so the drivetrain has seen some serious wear & tear a half ton never typically sees.

I thought about doing the same thing but opted against it. When I had the frame stripped of the everything but the front and rear axles and I was sandblasting it I found out home much flex a frame like this has built into it. I was afraid I would end up altering that engineered flex and run the risk of a stiff section causing the frame to crack later on.

I opted for keeping my 4WD frame and drilling it to fit the 2WD front end member.

I was told this Project had a L-72 427 425HP, It did not.
It does have a 427 block and parts from various 427 motors. It will end up with a nice strong 454 in the end.
It has not been run for 20+ years
Frame up restoration started2/15/2010
