need info: 1999 Suburban C1500 upgrades
hello to the 88-98 gm pickup (and 92-99 burb) crowd.
my dad just bought his fourth suburban.....a '99 2wd 1/2 ton that is a base model. neither of us are not old hats at working on burbs. he had a 72, an 84 and most recently an 87 and i have a 72 now....so you can guess i spend a lot of time on the 67-72 page of this site. this truck is in great shape.....hardly a scratch of rust, 2wd w/ panel doors and 9 passenger seating w/ solid front bench and even a/c, but that is where it leaves off on creature features. he is already looking into getting a roof rack and also the tow hooks/air dam off a late 90's 4x4 burb. also planning to upgrade to 6 leaf 2500 spec rear springs (95-99 burb is the only fit i hear). we are curious to know what is involved in adding a tilt column with cruise control and installing power mirrors. in the case of the mirrors, does anyone know if the harness' comes wired and all you need to do is plug in the hardware or is it a big project? and how bad is it to swap in a correct year tilt steering column and plug in (or wire in) the cruise circuitry. thanks! |

Re: need info: 1999 Suburban C1500 upgrades
These are good questions, so thanks for bringing them up.
In any swap that you are considering that have the electrical connections and possible interfaces with the computer systems, my thinking is that the computer on your vehicle may/may not have the circuitry and sensors to make it all work w/o some additional modifications. If you can get access to a wiring diagram for the specific year and model of your truck, you can follow the circuitry wiring and see what sensors have an effect on the overall operation of the cruise control, for example. Cosmetic enhancements shouldn't be an issue. The interior is the same from '95-96 (dash) and 97-99 (dash), but the other parts of the interior trim should be identical from '95-99 (Sub/Tahoe/Yukon). I think the '2000 is also the same in those trucks.

2000 Suburban is the new bodystyle.
Too bad you're not local, capev86, I'd give you a luggage rack. |

Re: need info: 1999 Suburban C1500 upgrades
thanks for the offer.....
my dad traded some parts he had for the roof rack from a local chevy parts supplier. as you know they are too bulky to ship so they only sell them locally not that there is much demand. |

The rack was one of the first things to come off of my Suburban.
