aluminum 5.3 vs iron block help decide guys
Ok guys I have a dilema here. Don't know what to buy. I can buy either a 5.3 from a 05 truck with 35k miles on it for 600 bux complete swap less tranny or I can buy a regular 5.3 or even a 6.0 swap complete for about the same. I just don't know if the aluminum swap is good for my 81 short wheel base 2 wd stepper. Any pros and cons on the aluminum block vs iron block besides the weight wich I am not that worried about. Thanks in advance.

If your planning on building it, go for the 6.0. Heads, cam, intake and tune puts you at 500hp.

Re: aluminum 5.3 vs iron block help decide guys
Any modern engine is an upgrade from an iron block. My ZZ4 runs aluminum heads. Are you doing a fuel injection or carb swap on the LS engine? A fuel injected motor is the best option. A 5.3 is great for a daily driver. A 6.0 for power, towing, and tire shredding. If I had started with a better truck, I would have gone 6.0 FI all the way.
