Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

I have a blazer tank with a adaptor goin from 1 3/8"-2". If I lower my bed onto the frame my filler will hit the floor. Should I cut a gaping hole in the floor (to the left of the bed mounting hole, just over 2") Or figure out a different plan..thanks!

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

from what Ive read (and I havent put my bed back on yet) you have to notch the cross rail on the bed to make clearance

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

I already did.....

No what I did was I welded an adaptor on (because I cannot to save my life find 1 3/8" FUEL hose anywhere!)

but now my adaptor is too high up and will go thru the floor..

and ive already put gas in it (no welding lol)

thanks ima bout to cut a hole in the floor and say f it

I took the thread part of the filler and heated it up to loosen the solder and was going to try to slip it in my existing adaptor but it was just a tad to small

and for you guys running a short fuel filler do you have trouble with 'sloshing and leaking?"

thanks a ton this is a pita

I think it will work. its not like fuel will be stored in the hose. its just used to funnel it into the tank

Can't you just bend the filler with the adapter down?

The only place I found the hose was a Specialty marine store. Its rated for fuel and exhaust.

If you need something now, you can get a radiator hose as a temp solution then get the marine hose.

For cutting the adapter off, use a round cleaning brush shoved down in the filler neck while you cut. Have someone running a shop vac while you cut and there shouldn't be much down in the tank when you pull out the brush. Don't cut the brush handle.

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

^^that brush woulda been a good idea

i stuffed a damp rag down in it and then made the cut it worked pretty good

then had a piece of metal cut and welded at the muffler shop and some kid practicing welded it (i coulda done better) but i told him what i wanted, which was not wat i watned lol

so im scrapping the idea and going to try to make something out of galvanized pipe that we have in the barn

ima do a filler in the bed infront of the tailgate post on the drivers side

Its gonna be a L with the top of the L being the cap, and the lower part of the L being my adaptor going to 13\8 i'll try to get pics its discouraging i havent drivn my truck in like a month lol i just am tired of WORKING on it..lol

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

get some fuel hose for your filler nech and use a BOAT FUEL FILLER SETUP.. they make all kinds of different ones... that way atleast it will be presentable in the bed....

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

I got some flexible 1 1/2" Fuel hose from napa and it seems to fit with a nice hose clamp tightened down to really snug it up on the blazer tank neck. I'm using a marine style filler on the wheel well inside the bed for a filler. Hopefully the tire won't rub lol my son just got done lowering it and we are running out of space!!! Is it safe to tighten down on a 1 1/2" inch hose to make it snug? I saw several vendors had 1 3/8" hose the problem is that all the marine filler necks are 1 1/2. BTW 1 1/2" Belted Flex Fuel hose is $24 a foot at napa LOL. I paid for 2' and only got 22".

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

Ooops I re read that. Here's what you want. We went to a muffler shop had them make a new filler neck & relocated it so it would be easier & straighter for filling.Went with a gas hose that has a grounding wire in it to prevent static electricity while filling up.

I like your idea. Hopefully I was trying to not have to weld on this tank! Hahah Anyone using the stock fill location? If so lets see how you handled it! Thanks guys!

Not bad! I like the idea. How did you mount your tank?

BTW...In the last pic... Is the pipe missing a piece??? Or is that just an odd pic?

Re: Help! Filler on blazer tank should I cut hole in floor

I started off with the sidemarker idea....but quickly realized this would not work where I live. The gas pumps have a large rubber "boot" on them and the filler nozzle will not fit inside the marker cut-out. I used a Blazer filler and cover, turned it around 180 degrees, and cut out a hole in the cover for the filler to stick out through. I also used a 60-66 rubber gasket (it is angled so it works better with the angle of the filler neck) It looks factory. Here are some pics of it. I have more at home, and a pic of it complete. The filler is up high so there are NO problems with fuel backing up and spilling out.
