I narrowed a rattle down to the driveshaft where it goes thru the crossmember under the back of the cab (350 with th350 tranny).
It is just forward of the middle U-joint.

How do I fix this?

I guess I need a new one!
I might as well replace the U-joints while I am at it!

That is the remains of your midshaft (carrier) bearing, you need a new one.

That is a very good idea, even as cheap as I am, if one item gets replaced, they all get deep sixed.

How long you been putting up with the rattle Krue??? That thing has been shot for quite a while!! Ditto on voting to replace all the u-joints. Buy good one's...not the cheapies!

It's been doing since I bought it in March. It comes and goes and from the cab it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side front. It wasn't until I crawled under it to look at the muffler (or what is left of it) that I saw it and realized what it was.

What can I say, I'm not the quickest off the line!:p

I had the same problem when I was in college. I broke my carrier bearing. It sounded like a U-joint was slamming against itself, but when I checked them they were alll good. Then I grabbed the shaft at the bearing and gave it a wiggle. I had not only broken the bearing, but had cracked the housing it rides in. It was lsowly opening up and was about to fall out. That was when I started thinking about a 1 piece drive shaft.

thats what left of the carrier bearing. the new one will fill up most of that area. im not sure if chevies need to be pressed on or not i know i had a dodge that did once
just gotta drop the driveshaft to change it or get it changed
time to check u joints while ya got it down too!
