I completely reworked mine and if I had the choice to do over I would invest in one of the Vintage Air or Old Air systems.
In the end the cost is about the same and the kits are much more efficient. The kits will add to the value where as a stock unit is just a plus. Have fun

i'm gonna switch mine over to the new style a/c that comes on 88-98 chevy/gmc trucks with a serpentine set up too. it won't be as nice as a vintage air or any other aftermarket system but will have a little more for parts availability.

This will get you sstarted in the right direction:
1.remove pass side hood hinge 2.remove bolts and lower rear of inner fender to get to air box bottom bolts. 3.disconnect freon lines at poa valve and expansion valve 4.remove heater hoses 5.disconnect bowden cable to air valve on top of air box 6.disconnect vacuum lines 7.remove glove box liner 8.remove ducts tha are connected to air box 9.remove screws connecting inner box to outer box and seperate them 10. inspect the air box to make certain the airdiverter flapper opens and closes fully If not you will have trouble cooling. Heater air will mix with cold air if not completely sealed off. May be necessary to trim rubber on flapper to make it seal 11.if metal part of air box is rusty drill out rivets and seperate two halves of air box and repair rust. The strip caulk between the air box halves is avail from body shop supply. All Seals and o-ring are avail from LMC Order the (kit) 12replacement heater cores are 1/2 in thinner than OEM but you can heat and bend brackets to fit. Hope this helps.
