Rockauto.com

Looking to order some things from them. Anybody use them recently and like them? I searched and found a few people who liked them 3 years ago. I never heard of them but was on google and searched for tune-up kits and they came up.

Also, anyone have a valid discount code? 5% is 5%.

I've ordered from them several times over the past 1.5 years, never had any problems.

They do a good job if you shop carefully, but watch out for the shipping charges.

Even accounting for shipping from multiple sources, there are times that the charges seem to bear no relationship to the actual size or weight of the package.

Sometimes reasonable, sometimes ridiculous.

Re: Rockauto.com

I've used them and had no problems. They have a decent selection of parts at a pretty good price.

Re: Rockauto.com

Thanks. I will use them. The shipping made me laugh. I added a thermostat and gasket. The gasket was $.25 but shipping on it was $2+ and the only thing coming from that location so I will go down to autozone or something to pick one up. I may get a tune-up kit somewhere also as shipping is $7 but I will need to price that out as it was a lot lower than buying the cap, rotor, and wires separate.

Thanks again. These guys have a lot of stuff. I'm still adding to my cart.

Also, whats the gap needed on our spark plugs? I've seen two different ones. 350 HD

Re: Rockauto.com

I have used them a lot - no problems. But, I always do a google search. Prices vary a lot on parts for these old trucks. I open several browser windows at one time and check:

Rock Auto - good prices, usually post official GM or Delco part number
AC Delco direct (spelling?) - best delco prices - do a google search
GMpartsdirect - good prices on OEM GM parts, but S&H is high for one part
Autozone, Checker/ORielly - good for aftermarket parts in a hurry
Napaonline - Napa store brand is best aftermarket quality, but more $$
LMC catalog (usually a little high priced, but sometimes the only source)
Classic parts (usually a little less than LMC, less shipping cost)
local auto parts store - usually better selection of aftermarket parts in stock
local GM dealer -usually laugh at me first, but often can get OEM parts quickly

No kidding - prices with shipping can vary by as much as 80% - for the same brand part - so price check all sources or you will waste a lot of money.

Re: Rockauto.com

Don't buy anything but Belden spark plug wires. NAPA sells Belden under their NAPA brand. Don't fall for the latest whizbang, super-duper, latest hot fire new fangled super shot plug wires. Also, sitck with AC Delco on the other tune up parts - cap, rotor, etc. On spark plugs - I go with what is on sale because I only drive in the city and they carbon up quickly - so I replace them every year or two.

Re: Rockauto.com

I have had good service from Rock Auto for several years, they are a good reference for finding the correct Delco part numbers and I like to buy Delco parts. As others have mentioned, some times the shipping is a little high and some times you can find the parts on Amazon.com with no shipping charges if you are buying an item that is more than $25.00 bucks.
