Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

So I'm confused. Are you talking about making a whole new bezel or just the woodgrain applique? In your original post you said "more accurate Cheyenne Super woodgrain dash bezels" but all the other posts are just about the wood grain applique.

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Mainly the Woodgrain Applique. There are nice reproduction dash bezels already out there. (Not all, but some are superior in quality compared to other dash bezels) I just wanted a more original woodgrain than just the stick on vinyl. The cheap repro appliques stink. They shrink and distort with little sun. I have tried contact cementing them on before and they still shrink up. I have been investing a lot of time and research of comparing woodgrain panels and internet investigation, that I believe I have found the cure for a correct woodgrain applique. I do not have a die set to stamp these out. I have a BA in Art and I better put it to use. That's why it is taking me awhile to do up a set. I don't have a problem with how Gary does his as they look great, but I have even heard of people whom bought their dash bezels from him that mentioned their woodgrain is peeling off. That is why I was asking if there was a demand. I am still working on getting you pics, it's one of our busiest weeks of the year at work. Trevor

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Here was my first prototype. Used another woodgrain pattern to tryout my first example. Let me know what you guys think. Trevor

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Looks a lot better than the bezel you put it on, that's for sure! From what I can tell, it sure lays down better than other stuff I've seen.

How does that wood pattern compare to the stuff Gary uses on the glove box doors?

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Yeah, I didn't have any new bezels around here yet, and this was my only original 69-72 bezel that I have, that didn't have a woodgrain applique already on it. Not sure what you are asking about how it compares to Gary's? You mean in grain pattern or how exactly? Trevor

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

For the record, I have several woodgrain patterns besides this color. Also, in these pics, my applique is not glued down. I wouldn't want to waste it on an old bezel like this, but was just taken to show how it fits. I can make them fit closer than the little bit of gap, but from the originals I have and seen, the holes are a little bit bigger than the actual gauge holes. Trevor

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Yes, I meant the wood grain pattern and color. To me, if I can't match it up to the door panels and glove box, then I haven't gained a whole lot. But what you've done is a great start!
I gather you've applied this to some material that will stick to the bezel AND keep the applique from peeling, curling, etc?

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

Zoomin- You will not find a bezel that will truly match the door panels or glovebox door. They are of entirely different as far as grain-color and pattern. They were screen printed (photoetched) onto the aluminum. The original woodgrain dashes were darker than the door panels and glovebox door. I have pics of my original glovebox and a set of NOS like door panel 72' pieces. 70-71 door panels do not match the original bezel color either. My original 71' door panels have more of a reddish color to them and most if not all I have seen, 70-71 are the same. I can get a really close match to the glovebox and door panel grain and color, but like I said, none of it will match 100% because they didn't even from factory.
To answer your question though, yes, these appliques should not peel up or warp like the repops. Trevor

I didn`t get the impression this one was intended to match.

I think that looks great! I`m not sure what way I`m going yet but I have a different idea from original I want to do.I do have a set of n.o.s. door inserts,so either way I want and original look bezel. But,I also want to do a custom set where I only need the trim piece unfinished.I want to have a guy I found do a grain paint set and may even go with an intentionally different wood look so as to not look like I`m "trying" to look original and to set it off even better.I`m also going to do a real wood veneer set one of these days. So,I know I`m good for more than one of these.

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

I am going to try and run up to K.C. either this weekend or next week and pick up some Dash Bezels to make up some better and accurate pieces to show. Bare with me as I haven't got any right now to show my different grains for you all. Thanks Trevor

Zoomin- I'll take pics of a nice factory glovebox door and my factory Cheyenne Super cluster bezel to compare grains, just so it's documented. Trevor

Re: Demand for more accurate Cheyenne Super Dash Bezels?

We had checked into doing this with a quality laminate a while back.but never could find a company that would cut the openings for us at a reasonable price. By the time you got the material, cutting, packaging the price got too high. The thing is repeatablility. If you hand cut them they are all not alike. It is doable but they will be expensive if its quality. Everyone says they want quality but when they see the price. We just didn't want to risk having them sit on the shelf.
